Compliance Training Solutions

Compliance Solutions, Inc., are Safety Consultants who focus on addressing regulatory compliance issues. Specialties include training and tracking of Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS), Hazmat, or Transport of Dangerous Goods (TDG) certifications, as well as performing facility and equipment audits for issues surrounding hazardous materials.

The Challenge

In Canada and the USA, the transportation of dangerous or hazardous waste products is carefully regulated. Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) and Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) legislation provides that workers must be informed about the hazards in the workplace and receive appropriate training to enable them to work safely.

As a firm certified to conduct training for WHMIS, TDS and Hazmat subject matter, Compliance Solutions sought to expand their services by offering certification tracking to the clients whose employees they already provided training services for. Originally, the plan was to keep track of their clients manually, working from Microsoft Excel spreadsheets in order to notify clients about soon-to-expire certifications within their workforce.

This solution would have faced standard problems: Only updatable by one person at a time, accessable only from specific places on the Network, and unwieldly as Compliance's client base grew. With a new batch of WHMIS training materials being sent out to a client immediately, Compliance's technical consultants suggested Compliance approach Metrex to develop a better system to manage their client records.

The Solution

Impressed with the ease-of-use and fast roll-out of the new website Metrex designed and implemented for them late in 2001, Compliance decided to enter into Stage Two with Metrex and their website, by bringing a Certification Management web application to life on the Compliance Extranet.

Metrex and Compliance worked closely throughout the development process, following a modular development strategy that allowed Compliance to start data entry and master file setup in tandem with Metrex developing core functionality.

The Results

Nine months after implementation of this new service, this Certification Management system is being used by over 30 companies with a total of over 3500 employees, recording training dates and course types while producing proof of certification in the form of Wallet Cards and Wall Certificates.
