Wiretek Australia provides a wide range of cables and networking computer peripherals to the Australian market. The Challenge With its original basic web presense, Wiretek offered simple contact information to online prospects. Seeing the benefit of moving towards online ordering, Wiretek sought a professional upgrade to their look, along with the integration of an eCommerce-capable shopping cart and a non-technical method of maintaining content. As site traffic continued to grow, constant downtimes with their low-cost 3rd-party Domain Name (DNS) service provider became much more noticable, regularly interrupting service to the website and adversely affecting Wiretek's growing online presence. The Solution In February 2002, Metrex rolled out Phase One of Wiretek Australia Ltd's computer products site, in the form of a professionally-designed, informational website that replaced their one-page presence from 1998. Phase Two introduced an online catalog with over 250 products within six categories, and was activated to the public near the end of July 2002. Preparing for Phase Three, scheduled for release in early 2003, Metrex worked with Wiretek's primary DNS provider, then took over secondary DNS services which served to stabilize access to the site. Once stability was attained, Metrex then re-worked the Wiretek Australia site design to allow visitors easier access to the information provided, while upgrading the site's core system code in order to provide a more intuitive back-end interface for Wiretek content administrators. Techniques have also been employed to further enhance the Search Engine compatibility of both the site and its product catalog. It is expected that both technically stabilizing the site and improving Search Engine Optimization techniques will surely result in increased traffic and interest in the Wiretek Australia line of wholesale computer products. The Results Within two months of opening the catalog to the public, search engine traffic from Google.com increased by more than 600%, with the release of the online catalog directly contributing to the doubling of daily unique visitors as compared to pre-catalogue statistics. Since stabilizing the DNS services in early January 2003, traffic to the site has continued to rocket and shows little sign of slowing down, further demonstrating the value of not only quality site development, but reliable DNS services in a professional Internet strategy. |
